Greetings from Paradise! Porto Katsiki is one of the most impressive beaches I have come across on my travels. The name translates as “Port Goat” – formerly only goats could reach this area, but now humans can enjoy it too! Located on the west coast of Lefkada, a Greek Island in the Ionian Sea, it is accessible via approximately 80 steep steps down a striking cliff.
My school friend has a large photo hanging at her mum’s place of her sisters walking down these very steps when they were kids. I knew when I first saw that remarkable image that I would visit one day. I’ve been fortunate enough to see Lefkada twice on my travels through Greece and, together with Amorgos, it is my favourite Greek Island.
There is parking and a snack bar on the cliff top. To avoid the crowds during the summer, I recommend that you visit in the early morning or late afternoon. Unfortunately, I didn’t get there early enough to escape the crowds but I did manage to stay for the beautiful sunset (approximately 8.30pm).
See here for more information on Lefkada.
